Hello Mrs. Spencer, I hope you are doing well. Daring today's class I think that I have nailed down what I would like to do for my project. I after doing some reading online about the top ten most deadly diseases in Africa, I found that Syphilis is one of the most deadly. Even more disturbing is the fact that while giving birth, women can pass the disease to their baby. I did some searches on African Children born with Syphilis and found an interesting article about how medics had already tried to fix the syphilis problem in Africa but had failed badly www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2014/04/true-story-behind-appalling-tuskegee-syphilis-experiment. This weekend I am going to continue my research on this topic. I may focus on just Syphilis in Africa or I may branch out to the topic of curable diseases that are killing people in Africa or babies with syphilis worldwide. I may research more about diseases that require a vaccine and why vaccines are not always available. Today in class I brainstormed with Dianna about what topic we wanted to do for our action project and what kind of action we would take. We decided that we will most likely be doing our project on domestic violence. We also researched some facts about domestic violence at www.canadianwomen.org/facts-about-violence. |
